For the first time in history, an Alhambra resident has been selected to represent her city as part of the Rose Court in the 2026 Rose Parade. Alhambra High School senior Keiko Rakin was selected in late September to join the court, distinguishing herself among Los Angeles’ top high school seniors for her community involvement, public speaking, and leadership.
Rakin’s accomplishments are extensive, including servin the current editor-in-chief of the Alhambra student newspaper, serving as the School Site Council Vice Chairperson, being former president of Congresswoman Judy Chu’s congressional youth council, and much more.
It’s clear from reading her bio and aspirations that Rakin deserves her spot on the Rose Court, but it wouldn’t even have been possible for her to apply to be selected just a few years ago. Alhambra only just became eligible last year to participate in the tournament’s long running court program after years of advocacy from community members and high schools in the city, marking a major milestone for the city. With Alhambra’s strong academic programs and dedicated students, it is no surprise to many residents that Keiko was chosen shortly after this opportunity opened up.
Alhambra’s pride will continue this winter at their annual Rose Queen & Court Luncheon, hosted by the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce on December 2, 2025. This event was established in 1988 by Annie Siu, the Alhambra Chamber’s first female president, who launched this beloved tradition to celebrate the young women who embody community leadership. Over 35 years later, Alhambra finally welcomes one of their own to the celebration, with community members joining together to recognize the seven young women representing many others working to better their communities.
