Representatives from the West San Gabriel Valley Boys & Girls Club present a $1,000 donation to Alhambra High School’s Academic Decathlon team in celebration of their outstanding County, State, and National achievements.

The West San Gabriel Valley Boys & Girls Club paid a special visit to Alhambra High School to honor their Academic Decathlon team for their tradition of academic excellence and building of student leaders. The event celebrated the team’s remarkable achievements at the county, state, and national levels, while also highlighting the power of community support and generosity.
This year, AHS’ Academic Decathlon team earned a series of impressive accolades, including winning the Los Angeles County competition, placing fourth at the California state competition, and finishing sixth in their first-ever trip to the National level of competition. The team’s national performance was further highlighted by a standout showing from senior Kevin San, who ranked second in the entire country. He also earned eleven individual medals and three scholarships for his achievements.
In recognition of these accomplishments, the Boys & Girls Club brought lunch for the entire team and their community of supporters, creating an atmosphere of celebration and gratitude. The organization also presented the team with a $1,000 check to support their continued success and reward their dedication and hard work.
This generous act was part of the Boys & Girls Club’s ongoing campaign, “Kindness is Free,” which encourages community involvement and acts of support that uplift young people. The campaign, rooted in the belief that simple gestures of kindness can lead to meaningful change, inspired the donation as a way to directly impact a program that has proven to be life-changing for many of the student participants.
With this celebration, the Academic Decathlon team not only walked away with medals and scholarships but with a strong reminder that their efforts are seen, valued, and supported by a community that believes in the power of education and kindness.
