Student Board Member Keiko Rakin was honored at her final Alhambra Unified Board of Education meeting on May 19th, completing her second term serving on the Board. In recognition of her service and leadership, Keiko was presented with a ceremonial gavel, and her name was added to the perpetual plaque displayed in the Board Room. She also received a leadership medal and pin to wear with her graduation stole at Alhambra High School’s commencement ceremony.
Keiko served as the district’s second-ever Student Board Member, following in the footsteps of Justin Wang, who served in 2023–2024. During her tenure, Keiko also chaired the Student Advisory Council (SAC) alongside Student Board Member Alternate Angelina Yip, helping guide initiatives focused on addressing hate speech, strengthening student-teacher connections, expanding opportunities across schools, and growing eighth-grade panels to support students transitioning to high school.
She served on SAC for three years, including the past two as Student Board Member, consistently elevating student voice across AUSD. Keiko also made history at Alhambra High School as its first-ever member of the Rose Court, balancing that honor alongside her district leadership.
In June, she helped facilitate leadership training and team-building for the upcoming year’s SAC members. Keiko was able to help guide our new set of student leaders before she heads off to the next phase of her academic journey at Wellesley College. AUSD is grateful for Keiko’s leadership, service, and lasting contributions to the district.
