When Saidy Salas first graduated from business school at East Los Angeles College in 2011, she thought she was on a practical path. But her heart pulled her in a different direction, one where she could be more creative. That same year, she shifted course and began training in cosmetology and esthetics. More than a decade later, she’s now the proud owner of Eyes for Beautys, a cozy, inclusive beauty studio in Alhambra.
Her journey into the beauty world began with hands-on experience at industry giants like Ulta and Sephora. For eight years, she honed her skills in makeup, brows, and sales while soaking up knowledge from celebrity artists in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. But something was missing.
“I just felt there wasn’t a space where everybody was included,” Salas said. So she created Eyes for Beautys to be a space that welcomes everyone, from every walk of life.
In 2023, Salas and her business partner Alma Garcia brought Eyes for Beautys to Alhambra after five years in Pasadena. Rising costs prompted the move, but what they found in Alhambra was something priceless: community.
“I feel like the locals in Alhambra have given us so much support. It feels like family here, like a big hug,” Salas shared.
The studio offers a full range of esthetic services including facials, threading, lashes, exfoliation, nano-needling, waxing, and radio frequency (RF) treatments. Salas focuses on threading and lashing, while Garcia handles more advanced skincare services.
Their philosophy is simple but powerful: beauty should be about enhancing, not altering. “We don’t want to change anyone,” Salas emphasized. “We’re gonna help you look better, not completely change you.”
More than just a beauty destination, Eyes for Beautys is a haven for connection and care. Salas, who proudly advocates for mental health, believes beauty is deeply personal — often tied to confidence, comfort, and healing.
“I feel like sometimes when we go into beauty spaces, it’s very personal,” she said. “There’s a deeper connection to why you do beauty. Sometimes, women do beauty to feel more confident or they’re seeking some comfort, and I feel like beauty and comfort go hand in hand.”
This focus on emotional well-being is especially meaningful for Salas, whose family is from Mérida, Yucatán, and who wants to challenge the stigma around mental health in her community. In the future, she wants to develop more products and grow her online store, hoping to ultimately land her products in Ulta or Sephora, the same stores where she started her career.
Small but mighty, Eyes for Beautys is not just a studio — it’s a reflection of one woman’s journey, resilience, and mission to make beauty a more welcoming space for all.
