Two Alhambra Unified School District students recently completed a year of leadership development and civic engagement through Congressmember Judy Chu’s Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC). Recent Alhambra High School graduate Nicole Del Villar and Mark Keppel High School rising junior Drexel Ngo were selected to serve on Dr. Chu’s 2025-26 Congressional Youth Advisory Council, joining students from throughout California’s 28th Congressional District.

The program concluded in May with a special meeting at Congressmember Chu’s Pasadena office, where CYAC members reflected on their experiences and participated in an open discussion with the Congresswoman. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, share their perspectives, and learn more about government and public service.

The CYAC program provides high school students with opportunities to engage in civic leadership, discuss issues affecting young people, and gain firsthand insight into the legislative process. Alhambra Unified students have established a strong presence in the program in recent years. During the 2024-25 school year, AUSD students Emily Huang, Madison Kang, and Keiko Rakin also served on the Congressional Youth Advisory Council.

AUSD congratulates Nicole and Drexel on their selection and successful completion of the program. We hope to see even more AUSD students participate in this outstanding leadership opportunity. Applications are being accepted through September 15th for next year’s CYAC. Find our more information and/or apply at: https://chu.house.gov/congressional-youth-advisory-council.
