Alhambra is strengthening its connections around the world with the formalization of its sister city relationship with Kirishima, Japan.
On July 27, Mayor Jeff Maloney hosted a special ceremony in Alhambra to officially sign a sister city agreement with Kirishima, formalizing a friendship between the two communities. Sister city relationships are official partnerships between communities in different countries that encourage cultural, educational, civic, and economic exchanges, creating opportunities for residents and local businesses to build connections across borders. The agreement marks a new opportunity for Alhambra and Kirishima to strengthen their relationship through cultural exchange, economic development, and community engagement.
The official diplomatic visit included tours of local Alhambra businesses, giving the visiting delegation an opportunity to experience the city’s diverse business community and learn more about its local economy. The visit also included a special reception attended by city dignitaries and community leaders.
The new relationship adds Japan to Alhambra’s growing network of international sister cities, which also includes its friendship cities of Granada, Spain and Tequila, Mexico. These partnerships give Alhambra residents, businesses, students, and community organizations opportunities to connect with communities around the world and share ideas, traditions, and experiences.
The Alhambra Chamber of Commerce is working alongside the City of Alhambra to support these international relationships and identify opportunities for local businesses and organizations to participate in future exchanges.
As Alhambra continues to grow as a diverse and internationally connected community, its sister city relationships offer another way to strengthen cultural ties, create economic opportunities, and expand the city’s presence on the world stage.
