Women You Should Know in Alhambra: Katherine Lee, Mayor & Councilmember, District 1

    Katherine Lee serves as the Mayor of Alhambra, representing District 1. Elected to the City Council in November 2018, she was sworn in for her second term as mayor in February of this year. A graduate of Alhambra High School, Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UCLA and a Master of Arts in Education/Educational Leadership from Point Loma University. 

    Before entering politics, Lee dedicated 16 years to teaching in the Alhambra Unified School District. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she chaired the Alhambra Teachers Association Negotiation and Finance Committee and volunteered at the American Renascent Center’s Community Crisis Center. In recognition of her contributions, she received the California Teachers Association WHO Award in 2005.

    As mayor, Lee prioritizes public safety, pedestrian safety, and housing access. Her top five goals include reducing traffic congestion, limiting high-density developments, ensuring stable and affordable housing, improving city maintenance and landscaping, and updating infrastructure. She emphasizes the importance of community input in shaping these initiatives.​

    Lee’s leadership reflects a blend of educational dedication and civic responsibility, making her a notable figure in advancing community well-being and sustainable development in Alhambra.
