    In Service to Alhambra – Lew McCammon

    Someone once said that there is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about. One resident defining what Alhambra cares about is Lewis (Lew) McCammon.

    Lew was raised in Alhambra in the 1950s and is an active part of our civic affairs. He went to school at Martha Baldwin Elementary and San Gabriel High School, graduating in 1961.

      Arbor Day, an annual day of remembrance, focuses on how important trees are to our lives. In Alhambra, designated a “Tree City” by the Arbor Day Foundation, this holiday is celebrated every year at Almansor Park, under the supervision of Mike Macias, Director of the Alhambra Parks and Recreation Department.

      Talmage Burke – The Longest Serving Elected Official in California History

      Born on November 22, 1918 and graduating from Alhambra High School in 1935, Talmage Burke enrolled at USC where he eventually earned his law degree. Burke became involved in Alhambra politics when his father, Montivel Burke, was elected to Alhambra’s City Council in 1942. After serving as the Mayor, Burke’s father was later elected to the California State Assembly in 1944.
