The upcoming Little League District 18 8-10 (Minors) All-Stars tournament has sparked a friendly wager between Temple City Councilmember Ed Chen and Alhambra Vice Mayor Jeff Maloney, whose sons will represent their respective cities on the diamond when the tournament begins June 24.

At stake? A hometown lunch — courtesy of the losing side. The city official whose team comes up short will treat the winning city’s sustainability staff to lunch, a nod to both leaders’ service on the Clean Power Alliance Board of Directors.

“As both a Council Member and a Little League dad, I enjoy a little healthy competition,” said Councilmember Chen. “Temple City’s team is stacked, motivated, and ready to make a deep run. Vice Mayor Maloney might want to start checking Yelp for catering options.”

Vice Mayor Maloney was equally confident. “Our Alhambra team is sharp, spirited, and built for the big stage. I’m looking forward to lunch — especially since Ed’s picking up the tab. I hear Temple City has some great restaurants.”

District 18 includes several San Gabriel Valley communities — Temple City, Alhambra, South Pasadena, San Gabriel, El Monte, Rosemead, and Monterey Park — and showcases top youth talent each summer in a tournament known for great baseball and even greater community spirit. Both Chen and Maloney expressed their appreciation for the families, coaches, and volunteers who make the All-Stars experience memorable for all.
