Wayang Restaurant brings the diverse flavors of Indonesia to Alhambra with a fully halal menu rooted in traditional recipes and regional specialties. Named after the centuries-old Indonesian shadow puppet tradition, the restaurant reflects the country’s rich cultural heritage through dishes that highlight aromatic spices, slow-cooked meats, and vibrant sauces. While Indonesian cuisine remains less common than many of its Southeast Asian neighbors, Wayang has earned a loyal following for introducing diners to its depth and variety.

Five students from Alhambra High School have won the National Speech & Debate Association’s Academic All American Award, the highest award that this organization bestows.

The international phenomenon SPOGOMI continues in the USA this summer with its 2026 Summer Series. Round 2 of 4 will be hosted by the arts education nonprofit, SG Theatre, based out of San Gabriel. By turning trash cleanup into a competitive sport, SPOGOMI makes community service fun while providing participants chances to win various prizes!

Since opening its first U.S. location in Alhambra in 2014, Little Swan Bakery has introduced generations of local customers to a wide range of Chinese and Asian-inspired pastries, breads, and specialty cakes. Originally established overseas in 1989, the bakery combines traditional favorites with modern desserts, creating a display case filled with everything from wife cakes and pineapple buns to elaborate layered crêpe cakes.

A De Luo Si Fen is part of the wave of specialty noodle shops that have introduced regional Chinese cuisines to the San Gabriel Valley, focusing on the distinctive rice noodles of Liuzhou in Guangxi Province. The restaurant’s signature dish, luosifen, has developed a passionate following for its unmistakable broth built from river snail stock, pickled bamboo shoots, chili oil, peanuts, tofu skin, and vinegar. The result is a bowl with a flavor profile unlike almost anything else in Chinese cooking, balancing sourness, spice, fermentation, and rich broth in a single spoonful.
