Installation of Officers and planning discussions for the ’25-’26 year for AAUW Alhambra-San Gabriel Branch took place in Kathleen Doty’s lovely backyard during the month of May.
Marilee Wood, president, opened the Installation event by thanking Kathleen for her hospitality and congratulating her on being the Named Gift Honoree for AAUW Fund. The Fund is AAUW’s major fundraising event to support women and girls in their research and educational endeavours.
Kathleen chose “The Future is in the Tarot Cards” as the Installation’s theme, and gave each incoming officer the following tarot card attributes: Treasurer, Cindy Ramos: prosperity, wealth; Secretary, Betty Morín: responsibility, creativity, considerate; Fund, Jane Anderson: wisdom, common sense, intelligence; Membership, Veronica Alvarez: moderation, harmony, friendship; Co-Program, Deanna Arthur & Lovey Sherman: deep concentration, respect for knowledge; President-Elect, Liz Tarnove: rejuvenation, change of position, development; President, Marilee Wood: worldly power, conviction, endurance; The Future, 2025-26: Attainment.
In her closing remarks, Marilee urged the branch to support AAUW’s Public Policy and to “Keep calm and carry on.” Liz Tarnove, President-Elect, related that she joined AAUW because its vision and mission “aligned with her own values.”
During a potluck meeting at Kathleen’s on May 31, the new Board and other members shared inspiring proposals for the new year and will meet again soon to finalize the calendar.The Branch offers a wide variety of activity groups including meetup get togethers, book and drama groups, creative crafters, Professional Women/Men and Restaurant Gourmets and Scattergories.
