Emmaus Lutheran School in Alhambra is honored to be named a 2025 Reader’s Choice Favorite by the San Gabriel Valley News Group. The school received top honors in four major categories: Favorite Preschool, Favorite Private Elementary School, Favorite Private Middle School, and Favorite Christian School.
Voted Favorite Preschool — A Joyful Place to Begin a Lifelong Love of Learning
While Emmaus is grateful for recognition across all grade levels, the school is especially proud to be named “Favorite Preschool.” Serving children ages 3-5, the preschool program at Emmaus provides a nurturing, faith-filled environment focused on Kindergarten readiness. With small class sizes and caring, experienced teachers, young learners gain essential academic, social, and emotional skills that help them thrive in the classroom and beyond.
“Our preschoolers are loved, encouraged, and challenged in all the right ways,” said Principal Cynthia Spiva. “We believe early childhood education is one of the most important investments a family can make — and it’s a joy to help build that foundation in Christ. We are honored to be named Favorite Preschool!”
Voted Favorite Private Elementary School — Growing in Knowledge, Creativity, and Community
The learning continues through Emmaus’s elementary grades, where students experience academic excellence along with enrichment in music, art, and STEM. This year, 4th-8th grade students performed in Emmaus’s first annual band concert, showcasing new musical skills many had only just begun learning at the start of the school year. The entire campus came together again for the end-of-year Variety Show, where students from preschool through 8th grade performed songs, skits, and dances — a joyful display of community and talent.
A standout moment from the year came when 2nd grader Eddie placed in the top five in California and top six nationwide in the international math competition Math Kangaroo USA, which promotes problem-solving, logical reasoning, and a love for mathematics in students from K-12. Eddie’s incredible achievement is just one example of how Emmaus supports and celebrates individual student strengths.

Voted Favorite Private Middle School — Preparing for the Future Through Exploration and Challenge
Middle school at Emmaus continues to build on this strong foundation with hands-on, inquiry-based learning. This spring, grades 5-8 presented their projects at the school’s Science Fair, where students applied critical thinking to real-world questions and experiments. Students in 7th and 8th grade also embarked on a meaningful outdoor education trip to Catalina Island, where they hiked, kayaked, and studied marine ecosystems at Emerald Bay — a breathtaking and immersive learning experience.
The end of the year also brought physical challenge and team spirit, as middle school students competed in the Lutheran Schools Track Meet at Los Altos High School, bringing home ribbons and showing great sportsmanship.

Voted Favorite Christian School
At Emmaus Lutheran School, education is more than academics — it’s about building a loving, Christ-centered community where each child is known, supported, and celebrated. Whether it’s through personalized learning, joyful worship, hands-on discovery, or moments of kindness between classmates, students are reminded daily that they are part of something special.
As we reflect on a year full of growth, celebration, and achievement, it’s no surprise that Emmaus was also voted “Favorite Christian School.” The recognition is a reminder of the strong partnership between school, church, and family, and we look forward to welcoming new families as we begin another incredible year this August.
