It is with immense honor and gratitude that I step into the role of Councilmember for District 4 and Mayor of Alhambra. My heart is full of appreciation, and I feel the weight of the responsibility entrusted to me. The trust our community has placed in me is humbling, and I will carry it with the utmost care and dedication.
First and foremost, I wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the residents of District 4. Over the past eight months, I walked every street and knocked on every door with my two children. The connections I made with each of you will stay with me forever. Thank you for opening your doors, sharing your stories, and welcoming my family with kindness. Your gestures – offering water and snacks as we braved the summer heat – warmed our hearts. These memories and conversations will guide me as I work to ensure that your voices, concerns, and suggestions are at the heart of every decision I make.
To all the residents in the City of Alhambra, I have had the privilege of getting to know many of you over the years that I served on the Planning Commission. Your deep care for the City and your thoughtful engagement has truly inspired me. Those years sparked my love for policy and showed me the importance of proper policy work and its impact on our community. It also showed me the joy of working hand in hand with our community. Now, in my new role, I am excited to continue that work with all your support. I look forward to even more of you engaging and participating in the important process of collective decision making that drives our City forward in the right direction. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected] with your ideas and suggestions.
As we prepare to welcome 2025, we have many exciting projects and initiatives on the horizon. In prioritizing these, my focus will remain on the needs of our local community, with public safety and quality of life as my top goals.
Public safety is the bedrock of our community’s well-being. It is foundational to everything we can achieve. It means ensuring public and neighborhood safety. A key way to achieve this and promote engagement is by reactivating, expanding, and reinvigorating our Neighborhood Watch programs. When neighbors look out for one another and build strong, connected communities, we create an environment where everyone feels secure — a nurturing space for our children to grow, our seniors to thrive, and for everyone to engage more and worry less. Safety also means ensuring that our streets are safe for pedestrians and traffic flows smoothly, so our neighborhoods remain welcoming for all — from children walking to school to seniors enjoying their daily routines. And even beyond that, safety extends to the resilience of our infrastructure, ensuring Alhambra is prepared to face and overcome challenges such as natural disasters and the demands of a growing city.
Enhancing the quality of life in Alhambra then builds on the foundation of safety. This includes increasing access to affordable housing, nurturing and supporting the growth of local businesses, expanding green spaces, promoting sustainability, preserving our historical resources, improving public transit services, finding ways to reduce noise that impact many residents in the city, and fostering opportunities for cultural and recreational enrichment that celebrate the rich diversity of our city.
My vision is to listen to all of you and weave these elements into the fabric of our community, making Alhambra a place where everyone feels safe and a sense of belonging. As we move forward, I will work closely with my Council colleagues, city staff, and each of you to ensure that all our work is thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful. Together, we can create a brighter, safer, and more prosperous Alhambra. Here’s to an incredible 2025! I wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season.
