On April 23, hundreds of excited and hungry visitors came to 1127 S Fremont Ave in Alhambra to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream, marking their fourth location in the San Gabriel Valley. On the hot April day, the first 50 visitors in line were especially excited, as Handel’s served them free ice cream.
Kevin Hurley, one of the four co-owners of the new Alhambra location, addressed the eager crowd. “We’re so happy to be here in Alhambra. I’m thankful especially to our brokers, the Ratkovich team, the city, and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce for their support along the way. We’re grateful to the crowd that came out today, and as you support our businesses, you’re supporting the 47 people currently working here, most of whom are able to be working their first job. Let’s eat some ice cream!”
Among the crowd were elected officials and representatives, coming from the City of Alhambra, Congresswoman Judy Chu’s office, Senator Sasha Renée Pérez’s office, and Assemblymember Mike Fong’s office to join in the festivities, officially welcome Handel’s to Alhambra, and enjoy the delicious ice cream.
“We are so excited to have Handel’s here in Alhambra,” shared Alhambra Mayor Jeff Maloney. “Their business and history are incredible. They’re great employers, they provide a great service to the community, and it’s great ice cream.”
John Bwarie, CEO of the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce, echoed a similar sentiment: “It’s more than just a new business and new flavors coming to town. Nearly 50 local people are getting jobs because of this business opening. When a new business opens in our city, we can hire individuals, create jobs, and create more affordability in our community.”
