Yesterday, California State Senator María Elena Durazo, who represents Alhambra as part of SD 26, spoke to community members about her work in the State Senate at the Alhambra Chamber’s Leadership Luncheon held at Wondries Toyota.
Senator Durazo shared some of her key initiatives, including her recent fundraiser to provide 2,000 students with backpacks ahead of back-to-school season this year and ongoing work to provide support for unhoused people. Throughout the luncheon, she emphasized the role that every resident plays in creating change in our community, from City Council members like Adele Andrade-Stadler, sitting in the audience, to the everyday citizen who speaks up about the issues in their neighborhood. Her efforts fighting for funding in Sacramento goes towards the work our communities are doing in Alhambra and throughout the rest of her representative district. She emphasized that collective action is the best way to take care of issues and she wants to work together with residents on issues like the 710 terminus.
Senator Durazo recently volunteered alongside more than 180 others from the community in the Alhambra Day of Service in September, where she put on gloves and an orange reflective vest and got to work cleaning up Almansor Park.
