Alhambra Community Projects Receive $1.7 Million From Community Project Funding Program

Key community projects in Alhambra recently received a total of $1.7 million in funding from the Community Project Funding (CPF) program, thanks to efforts by Congresswoman Judy Chu. The Multimodal Improvement Project at Valley Boulevard will receive $1.2 million and the Joslyn Senior Center Facility Improvements will receive $500,000.

The Multimodal Improvement Project aims to promote alternative modes of transportation along Valley Boulevard, a heavily trafficked roadway that runs through Alhambra. The funding will go towards improving infrastructure for pedestrians, bicycles, and buses. As Valley Boulevard connects much of the San Gabriel Valley, these upgrades will improve accessibility throughout the Valley in addition to supporting active transportation, reducing pollutants and emissions, and improving public health.

The Joslyn Senior Center, located in Story Park, is the only senior center in Alhambra and is in need of repairs and accessibility updates. The $500,000 will go towards critical repairs to the roof and improving lighting, landscaping, and accessibility design. According to the City of Alhambra, the Joslyn Senior Center serves over 40,000 seniors and offers programs and activities for adults age 60 and over, including recreation, social services, nutrition, and transportation. The Center plays a vital role in keeping older adults active, engaged, and independent in the community.
