Each May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to reflect on the importance of our emotional well-being. Our mental health shapes how we think, feel, and act — and influences how we manage stress, connect with others, and navigate the world. Yet despite its central role in our lives, mental illness remains heavily stigmatized. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year, and nearly 60% of them do not receive treatment.
In recent years, we’ve seen sharp increases in anxiety, depression, and burnout across all age groups. From navigating daily pressures to processing trauma or grief, more people than ever are seeking ways to tend to their mental health. Raising awareness about mental health saves lives. When we create space for honest conversations, when we listen without judgment, when we offer help instead of shame — we create the conditions for healing and resilience. Up to 90% of individuals who receive mental health treatment report significant improvement (NAMI), and people with strong social support are far more likely to recover and thrive.
Though access to mental health care is not always easy, we want you to know that you are not alone. At Pelican Cove, we believe that mental health care is essential to everyone, and we are here to help. Pelican Cove strives to make mental health services accessible to all by providing low-cost therapy to those in need. Spread the word!
Join Us For the Marathon in May for Mental Health
This May, we invite you to move with purpose. Pelican Cove Counseling Center is once again hosting the annual event, Marathon in May for Mental Health — a community-wide event that starts May 1 to raise awareness, inspire movement, and support those on the path to healing.
Gather your friends, family, and coworkers to participate in this inspiring initiative. Whether you run, walk, or hike, this is your opportunity to show up for mental health—yours and others’. Register at runsignup.com/Race/CA/LosAngeles/RunHealThrive.
Here’s how it works: You have 31 days to complete 26.2 miles — the length of a marathon. You can do a mile a day or a few miles every few days. Just complete your miles by May 31st and help spread the word.
Together, we can raise mental health awareness and create a healthier and more supportive community!
