Eco News from The Alhambra

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded The Alhambra a performance score of 70, LEED Gold, the fourth LEED-EB (Existing Building) certification for the property. LEED certification identifies The Alhambra Community as a showcase example of sustainability and demonstrates leadership in transforming the building industry with a commitment to building a healthy, sustainable future.

The Alhambra’s eco-friendly innovations have earned them an ENERGY STAR score of 90, signifying the building’s energy efficiency surpassing 90% of similar properties nationwide and marking the 13th year of certification. On average, Energy Star buildings generate 35% fewer greenhouse gasses than other similar buildings.

The Alhambra’s Bloom Energy fuel cells generate clean, reliable electricity that meets approximately 75% of total energy demand for the campus, with lower CO2 emissions than the local electrical grid, and virtually no particulate emissions that cause smog and respiratory diseases. In March 2020, The Alhambra installed EV charging stations in the parking garage. Since that time, the campus has avoided 169,406kg of greenhouse gas emissions, akin to planting 4,344 trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
