Brightwood School’s afterschool programs recently participated in the nationwide Lights On Afterschool event, an initiative that has been celebrated every year since 2000 to underscore the value of afterschool programs. These programs offer a safe environment for children to learn, grow, and engage with their communities.

Earlier this year, the school’s Adventures team collaborated with Options and Spark to host a Glow-in-the-Dark activity day. The event featured a Glow-in-the-Dark party, trunk-or-treating, and a variety of game booths, creating an engaging experience for the participating students.
Linda Nakagawa, Instructional Specialist for AUSD’s Expanded Learning Programs, emphasized the significance of afterschool initiatives, “AUSD’s Adventures programs are a vital part of our students’ lives. They provide opportunities to explore new interests, develop essential skills, and stay safe in a positive, structured environment outside of the school day. The Lights On Afterschool event helped to celebrate and showcase the lasting impact these programs have on our families and community.”
