As the hot weather sticks around this summer, water conservation becomes more critical than ever. With rising temperatures and extended daylight hours, water usage in households and commercial properties tends to increase significantly, particularly for outdoor irrigation. However, there are effective strategies to manage water consumption while maintaining lush, healthy landscapes. One such solution is the use of irrigation smart controllers.
Smart irrigation controllers are designed to optimize the watering schedule of your landscaping. Unlike traditional timers that run on a fixed schedule, smart controllers adjust watering based on real-time weather data, soil moisture levels, plant types, and landscape conditions. This means your garden receives the right amount of water it needs precisely when it needs it, reducing water waste and promoting healthier plants. By tailoring the irrigation schedule to the actual needs of your plants and the local weather conditions, these devices can reduce water usage by up to 30%.
Reducing water consumption not only benefits the environment but also lowers your water bills. Over time, the investment in a smart controller can pay for itself through the savings achieved on your utility bills.
The San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District is excited to reveal an updated initiative aimed at enhancing water efficiency and conservation in the community. The updated Smart Irrigation Retrofit Program builds upon the District’s commitment to sustainable water management by offering residents a comprehensive upgrade for their irrigation system, completely free of charge.
Managed in partnership with WaterWise Consulting, Inc., the program begins with a thorough irrigation inspection conducted by a certified professional. This inspection includes identifying and repairing leaks, replacing inefficient spray nozzles, and optimizing the system layout for improved water distribution. Qualified participants of the program will also receive a state-of-the-art weather-based smart irrigation controller at no cost.
The District encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to upgrade their irrigation systems. The Smart Irrigation Retrofit Program not only helps conserve water but also promotes healthier landscapes and reduces water bills for residents. Funding is limited.
