Someone once said that there is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about. One resident defining what Alhambra cares about is Lewis (Lew) McCammon.

Lew was raised in Alhambra in the 1950s and is an active part of our civic affairs. He went to school at Martha Baldwin Elementary and San Gabriel High School, graduating in 1961.

A De Luo Si Fen is part of the wave of specialty noodle shops that have introduced regional Chinese cuisines to the San Gabriel Valley, focusing on the distinctive rice noodles of Liuzhou in Guangxi Province. The restaurant’s signature dish, luosifen, has developed a passionate following for its unmistakable broth built from river snail stock, pickled bamboo shoots, chili oil, peanuts, tofu skin, and vinegar. The result is a bowl with a flavor profile unlike almost anything else in Chinese cooking, balancing sourness, spice, fermentation, and rich broth in a single spoonful.

Yung Ho Dou Jiang has been one of the longstanding destinations for Taiwanese breakfast in the San Gabriel Valley, drawing early morning crowds for soy milk, rice rolls, pancakes, and other traditional breakfast staples. Long before Taiwanese breakfast became a trend outside of Taiwanese communities, Yung Ho Dou Jiang was introducing many local diners to dishes built around fresh soy milk, youtiao, and handmade breakfast pastries. Its reputation has made it a fixture on Valley Boulevard and a point of nostalgia for many who grew up eating Taiwanese breakfast.
