The Alhambra Unified School District is proud to announce the expansion of its Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes to all 13 of our elementary campuses. Two additional TK classes opened as part of our Dual Immersion programs: Spanish at Fremont School and Mandarin at Northrup School.

The TK program gives AUSD’s youngest students early social and learning experiences that lay the foundation for future success in school. TK teachers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their roles. In addition to holding multiple-subject teaching credentials, each is required to have completed at least 24 Early Childhood Education units.

The State of California recommends a play-based classroom design and curriculum and AUSD was fortunate to receive a grant to help support these classes. “The grant has allowed us to purchase new furniture, materials, and additional collaborative time for teachers to design their units,” explains Deserie Bradvica, AUSD Instructional Specialist in Literacy. The team of teachers will work together throughout the year, and are also guided by a consultant, Kristi Mraz, who designs learning opportunities for Early Childhood educators across the San Gabriel Valley.

The expansion of our TK program will help ensure these young students will enter kindergarten the following year prepared and ready to learn, grow, and thrive.
