Cal State LA’s Voter Fest 2024 is an exciting community event designed to engage young voters and historically underserved communities. Centered on the theme, “The Art of Civic Engagement,” the arts-focused festival encourages hands-on participation and underscores the power of voting.
The festival brings together campus organizations, student clubs, faculty from diverse departments, and community groups. The civic-themed activities include games, a selfie station, craft-making, interactive workshops, and food trucks. Additionally, student-made PSAs celebrating voting will be screened.
Voter Fest is the centerpiece of the Pat Brown Institute’s 2024 Fall Civic Series, which is designed to build community connections and foster civic engagement. The series tackles critical issues like voting rights, media literacy, and housing justice. Events include “Ballots and Burritos: Breaking Down the Ballot,” “Good Jobs: Pathways to Work That Matters,” and a post-election convening, “The Future of Democracy: Coming Home.”
“Young people have a vital role to play in shaping our future. The Pat Brown Institute is committed to helping the next generation exercise their right to vote. Civic education empowers voters so they can engage in this essential part of the democratic process,” said Pat Brown Institute’s Executive Director Sascha Brown Rice.
Cal State LA was recently awarded the bronze seal from the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN), which is based on the 2022 campus voting rate as documented by the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) report from Tufts University. In 2020, Cal State LA was awarded a gold seal for the presidential election cycle. “This year, the students are fired up and going for the gold,” concluded Brown Rice.
Visit the Cal State LA University-Student Union Plaza from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, October 22 to join the festivities.
