Join Alhambra Historical Society at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, as they present their fall program “Swinging for the Fences — Alhambra’s Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner.” The program will take place at the Alhambra Masonic Center, 9 West Woodward Avenue, Alhambra, CA. The event is free to the general public and all are invited to attend.

Alhambra has had more than its share of great athletes but none have been greater than Ralph McPherran Kiner. Known as the “Maulin’ Moor,” Kiner played at Alhambra High School (1938-1940) as an All-Southern California baseball star and went on to play professional baseball (1946-1955) before being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975. His career took him into the broadcast booth where he announced major league baseball games for another 52 years (1961-2013).

The evening’s presenter will be Joe Castillo, Alhambra Historical Society Board Trustee and Treasurer. Mr. Castillo is also the author of five historical books and a historical column for the San Gabriel Valley Examiner.

Light refreshments will be served and parking will be available at the Alhambra Masonic Center and on surrounding city streets.

The Alhambra Historical Society is a 501c3 non-profit organization working towards preserving Alhambra’s robust history and educating residents about the historically significant people and places that are unique to Alhambra and surrounding San Gabriel Valley.
