Congratulations to Alhambra High School junior Keiko Rakin (pictured far left, front row), who was one of 18 juniors and seniors selected to be part of Assemblymember Mike Fong’s Young Leaders Program this summer. For two weeks, student leaders from across Assembly District 49 gathered together to learn about state government and issues affecting their local community. “I am so grateful to be part of Assemblymember Mike Fong’s Young Leaders Program. I have learned so much about politics, civic engagement, community organizing, networking, legislation, and the list goes on! I created a project about human rights and an op-ed to spread awareness on the issue,” explains Rakin. “I also want to thank my amazing instructor Jennifer Tang and the rest of my peers for creating an unforgettable experience. I hope to continue my work in politics, advocacy and to continue to learn!” Keiko’s experience will be invaluable as she takes on new and continuing leadership roles at AHS and the Alhambra Unified School District.
